Alfa Romeo 75 Interior & Electrical

The interior has also been a bit neglected by previous owners, but it’s not a lost cause. The seats and trim panels are fine, but I’m always on the look out for detail parts to get it back to original condition. I was lucky enough to get a nearly-new roof panel, complete with sunroof mechanism from my local dealer. It could use a new carpet, some other odds & sods, that’s about it.
Electrical
The Motronic engine management, together with electric *everything* makes the electricals suprisingly complex. I haven’t had too many problems yet, but…
Speedometer
The speedo is electronic, therefore it *can* go wrong. The ‘black box’ is located under the rear seat on the left:
If the speedo stops working, remove the rear seat base and locate the black box. There’s a three-way connector nearby. Hook up a voltmeter to the signal wire (grey). Jack up one wheel »”>rear wheel and select neutral. With the ignition on, rotate the rear wheel by hand. The meter should alternate between 12 volts and no volts. If not, check that you have a 12 volt supply (pink wire) and check the wiring to the sensor on the side of the gearbox. It is possible that the sensor has failed – these things are expensive, so try to eliminate all other possibilities before forking out for a new one!
If the signal is OK, check the connector and the wiring to the speedo (it was a dodgy connector on my car). If all else fails, remove the dashboard and check for a signal on the speedo itself.
