Brake balance valve

The braking system is dual-circuit, split front to rear.
The balance valve is there to reduce the pressure to the rear brakes, as well as allowing the front brakes to work if the back loses pressure.

The balance valve is located next to the master cylinder. If you place your finger over the rubber end-cap while an assistant operates the brake pedal, you should feel the balance valve moving. So far so good.

If the balance valve fails, you might have trouble bleeding the rear brakes. You will also get odd brake feel. It’s a simple matter to pop the rubber cap off and look of evidence of fluid leakage – this was the case on my car.

Removing and dismantling the valve showed signs of scoring on the piston body – which meant that the valve was U/S. It wasn’t repairable, so I bought a new one.

You can skip to the end and leave a response. Pinging is currently not allowed.
